Father’s Day: What it means to an NHS doctor – Part 2

Father's Day NHS doctor

What does it mean to be a father, and a doctor? On Sunday, we celebrated Father’s Day in the UK. Father’s Day is about honouring all of the special male role models in your life.

Working a full-time job as well as being a father can be challenging but it can also be the most rewarding job in the world. For doctors around the world, looking after your patients and your family means you have two incredibly important jobs.

As part 2 of our Father’s Day series, we interviewed Dr. Nalika, who we recently placed in the NHS as a middle-grade ICU doctor to find out what it’s like working as a doctor as well as being a father

1. What’s it like being a father and a doctor within the NHS?

Being a father and a doctor in the NHS carries two very big responsibilities. I must manage both roles very well and I won’t allow mistakes to happen. They are both incredibly fulfilling responsibilities, and they bring me happiness every day.

2. Are you able to find a balance?

My wife is moving to the UK next month, which I’m very much looking forward to. I really hope I can balance everything, but I know she will be there to help me.

3. What advice do you have for doctors who would like to become fathers?

I highly recommend it, you’ll find so much joy looking after a little one alongside your role in the NHS.

4. Was Remedium able to help you to find childcare in the UK?

Remedium helped me throughout the whole relocation process. Not only did they find me my dream role in the NHS but they also really cared about the happiness of my family. They helped us apply for a child visa and I’m currently looking for a house to live, a school, and a car!

5. What have you got planned for this Father’s Day?

My baby’s birthday is the 18th of June, I have already sent her a gift and we will be celebrating virtually this year. We have organised a party via zoom. I get to share father’s day with her birthday which makes it even more special.

We hope Dr. Nalika has a wonderful day with his family celebrating this special day! We also want to wish all the fathers who double up as doctors a very Happy Father’s Day.
