An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Speciality Doctor in Emergency Medicine to join a forward-thinking and clinically skilled Emergency Medicine team in Greater London.
The department is committed to providing safe, compassionate and high-quality emergency care, supported by a strong multidisciplinary team and robust clinical governance structure.
The Emergency Departments provide 24-hour emergency care, with a comprehensive range of medical and surgical services supported by diagnostic and therapy services. The service manages a high-volume and complex patient population and has established trauma and emergency care pathways.
The successful candidate will join a highly motivated middle-grade team and will have opportunities to develop a specialist area of interest within Emergency Medicine.


Main Duties

The successful candidate will:
  • Provide high-quality clinical care to patients attending the Emergency Department.
  • Take responsibility for the primary assessment and management of patients.
  • Supervise and support junior doctors working within the department.
  • Work closely with the nurse in charge and wider multidisciplinary team to ensure patients are managed safely and efficiently.
  • Assess patients in observation and clinical decision areas and contribute to appropriate diagnosis and management.
  • Lead the trauma team when required.
  • Assist the cardiac arrest team when required.
  • Review X-ray reports and arrange appropriate follow-up for patients with missed fractures.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues across different specialities.
  • Contribute to the department's clinical governance and quality improvement activities.
  • Participate in departmental and trauma-call audits.
  • Take an active role in teaching junior doctors, medical students, nursing staff and other professional groups.
  • Maintain continuing professional development and participate in relevant training and professional meetings.

  • Develop their skills through ongoing CPD and study leave.


Person Specification

Requirements

Essential

  • MBBS or equivalent
  • MRCEM
  • Full registration with the GMC
  • Completed at least 4 years' full-time postgraduate training, or equivalent experience gained through part-time/flexible training.
  • At least 2 years' experience in Emergency Medicine or relevant equivalent competencies.
  • ALS provider
  • ATLS provider
  • Understanding of the principles of medical audit.
  • Understanding of the role of research in Emergency Medicine.
  • Effective communication skills in English.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues across other specialities.
  • Professional attitude towards work and a good attendance record.
  • Interest in teaching medical students, nursing staff and other professional groups.

Desirable

  • EPLS/APLS or PALS certification.
  • Evidence of completing a clinical audit project.
  • Evidence of research publication.
  • Good presentation skills.
  • Qualification in medical education.
