An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Consultant in Diagnostic Neuroradiology to join a regional neurosciences service in North West England.
The successful candidate will provide a comprehensive diagnostic neuroradiology service, supporting an established multidisciplinary team and contributing to the continued development and expansion of neuroradiology services.
The role includes MRI and CT reporting, participation in neuroradiology MDTs, advanced neuro-imaging and close collaboration with colleagues across neurosciences and radiology. Candidates interested in working less than full time are also encouraged to apply.

Main Duties & Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive diagnostic neuroradiology services.
• Undertake inpatient and outpatient MRI and CT reporting.
• Support local and network neuroradiology MDTs.
• Present cases at specialist neuroradiology MDT meetings.
• Contribute to the planning, development and delivery of the neuroradiology service.
• Work closely with neurology, neurosurgery, radiology and wider multidisciplinary teams.
• Support advanced neuro-imaging services and specialist reporting.
• Contribute to teaching for Specialist Registrars rotating through the service.
• Participate in clinical audit, research and quality improvement.
• Develop specialist elements of the service in line with clinical priorities and available resources.
• Maintain high professional standards of clinical care and continuing professional development.

Specialist Interests

There are opportunities to develop or maintain additional subspecialty interests alongside diagnostic neuroradiology.
Experience in advanced neuro-imaging is desirable. The wider service also provides opportunities for specialist work across areas such as head and neck imaging, ultrasound, and other radiology subspecialties.

Job Plan

The post is structured around 10 programmed activities per week:

• 8.5 PAs – Direct Clinical Care
• 1.5 PAs – Supporting Professional Activities

The indicative programme includes:

• Neuroradiology MDT cover and reporting
• Neuro/general radiology reporting.
• Neuro reporting and MDT activity
• Neck ultrasound
• Dedicated SPA time
• Flexible management, reporting and service-development activity
• Emergency on-call commitments

Department & Service

The role sits within a comprehensive Diagnostics and Clinical Support division encompassing:

• Radiology
• Neuroradiology
• Ultrasound
• Interventional Radiology

• Oncological Radiology

The service is equipped with modern imaging facilities, including 3T MRI, multiple 1.5T MRI scanners, multislice CT, neuro-interventional facilities and PET-CT access.
The neuroradiology team includes consultants with interests spanning diagnostic and interventional neuroradiology, as well as head and neck imaging.

Person Specification

Essential Requirements

• Full GMC Registration and Licence to Practise.
• MBBS or equivalent.
• FRCR or equivalent.
• CCST in Radiology or equivalent registration.
• CCT within six months.
• Fellowship in Diagnostic Neuroradiology from an accredited training scheme.
• Wide experience in diagnostic neuroradiology.
• Experience of neuroradiology MDT work within a tertiary neurosciences environment.
• Recent experience of on-call working.
• Ability to work effectively as part of a clinical team.

Desirable

• Experience of advanced neuro-imaging techniques.
• Subspecialist training in another radiology discipline.
• Ability to perform ultrasound and guided interventions.
• Teaching skills across medical and paramedical disciplines.
• Management or leadership qualification.
• Peer-reviewed research publications.
