An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Consultant in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery to join an enthusiastic and supportive multidisciplinary team in North West England.
The successful candidate will provide comprehensive Oral & Maxillofacial services, working closely with Consultant colleagues and Orthodontic specialists to deliver high-quality patient care across outpatient, inpatient and surgical settings. The role offers an excellent opportunity to contribute to clinical service development, education and multidisciplinary care within a modern surgical department.


Main Duties & Responsibilities

  • Deliver consultant-led general and specialist Oral & Maxillofacial outpatient clinics.
  • Undertake independent elective theatre sessions.
  • Provide inpatient reviews and ward-based patient care.
  • Assess and manage emergency referrals in collaboration with the on-call team.
  • Maintain accurate clinical documentation, discharge summaries and clinic correspondence.
  • Supervise speciality doctors, trainees and junior medical staff.
  • Coordinate junior staff rotas, annual leave and study leave.
  • Work in accordance with departmental protocols and clinical governance standards.
  • Participate in audit, teaching and continuous service improvement activities.

Person Specification

Essential

  • Full GMC Registration with licence to practise.
  • Full GDC Registration.
  • MBBS, MBChB or equivalent medical qualification.
  • BDS or equivalent dental qualification.
  • Strong clinical experience in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery.
  • Ability to work independently and provide excellent acute clinical care.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience in teaching and training.
  • Understanding of clinical audit principles.
  • Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams.
  • High standards of professionalism, integrity and patient-centred care.


Teaching, Leadership & Professional Development

The successful candidate will:
  • Supervise and mentor junior doctors and speciality trainees.
  • Contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate education.
  • Participate in clinical audit and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Support service development and multidisciplinary working.
  • Maintain Continuing Professional Development (CPD), appraisal and revalidation requirements.
