An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Locum Consultant in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery to join an established specialist team in Scotland.
This role offers the opportunity to deliver comprehensive Oral & Maxillofacial services within a collaborative multidisciplinary environment. The successful candidate will work alongside experienced consultant colleagues, contribute to service development, support teaching and training, and play an active role in clinical governance and quality improvement.

Main Duties & Responsibilities

• Deliver consultant-led Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery services across elective and emergency care.
• Manage outpatient clinics, theatre sessions and inpatient care.
• Participate in the Consultant on-call rota with prospective cover.
• Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to provide coordinated patient care.
• Contribute to service development and quality improvement initiatives.
• Supervise and support junior medical and dental staff.
• Participate in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching.
• Maintain CPD, appraisal and revalidation requirements.
• Contribute to audit, clinical governance and research activities.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

• Full GMC Registration with Licence to Practise.
• Full registration with the General Dental Council (GDC).
• GMC Specialist Registration in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery (or within six months of eligibility).
• Fellowship or Membership of the Royal College of Surgeons (or equivalent).
• Fellowship in Dental Surgery or Membership of the Faculty of Dental Surgery (or equivalent).

Desirable

• Higher academic qualifications (MSc, MD/MS, MDS or PhD).
• ATLS Trainer status.

Experience & Skills

Essential

• Broad consultant-level experience in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery.
• Ability to manage patients independently.
• Excellent multidisciplinary team-working skills.
• Strong organisational and leadership abilities.
• Experience in outpatient management, clinical governance and audit.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Commitment to continuing professional development and quality improvement.

Desirable

• Experience in management and service leadership.
• Research and publication experience.
• Experience supervising postgraduate research and teaching clinical skills.
