An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Specialist / Locum Consultant Geriatrician to join a well-established Geriatric Medicine service in Greater London on a 12-month fixed-term basis.
The successful candidate will provide consultant-led care for older adults, delivering comprehensive geriatric assessment, acute frailty management, multidisciplinary care planning and rehabilitation support. Working alongside an experienced team of geriatricians, therapists, nurses, and allied health professionals, you will help deliver high-quality, compassionate care while supporting service development and clinical excellence.

Main Duties & Responsibilities

• Deliver consultant-led care for older adults across acute inpatient services.
• Provide comprehensive geriatric assessment and management of complex medical conditions.
• Lead multidisciplinary ward rounds and discharge planning meetings.
• Support frailty assessment, rehabilitation and community transition planning.
• Work collaboratively with orthopaedic teams, therapists, pharmacists and community services.
• Participate in clinical governance, audit and quality improvement initiatives.
• Supervise and educate junior doctors, medical students and multidisciplinary colleagues.
• Support the development of innovative elderly care pathways and integrated services.
• Promote patient safety, compassionate care and continuous service improvement.
• Participate in outpatient clinics where required.
• No on-call commitment. Part-time applications will also be considered.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

• Full GMC Registration with Licence to Practise.
• MRCP or equivalent qualification.
• CCT or CESR in Geriatric Medicine (or within six months of completion).
• Wide-ranging experience in General and Acute Medicine.

Desirable

• Higher postgraduate qualification (MD, PhD or equivalent).

Experience & Skills

Essential

• Previous NHS experience.
• Extensive experience in Geriatric Medicine and Acute Medicine.
• Experience managing frailty, complex elderly patients and multidisciplinary care.
• Evidence of clinical leadership and service improvement.
• Experience supervising junior doctors.
• Excellent communication, organisational and teamworking skills.
• Experience in clinical governance, audit and quality improvement.
• Commitment to high-quality, patient-centred care.

Desirable

• Management training.
• Knowledge of healthcare finance and service management.
• Educational supervision accreditation.
• Research publications and higher academic qualifications.
