An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Consultant Gastroenterologist to join a dynamic and forward-thinking Gastroenterology service in North West England.The successful candidate will provide consultant-led care across inpatient, outpatient and endoscopy settings, delivering high-quality management of gastrointestinal and hepatobiliary disorders. Working alongside an experienced multidisciplinary team, you will contribute to service development, education, research and clinical governance while helping shape the future of Gastroenterology services.
Main Duties & Responsibilities
- Deliver consultant-led Gastroenterology care across inpatient and outpatient services.
- Perform diagnostic and therapeutic upper and lower GI endoscopy in accordance with JAG standards.
- Manage acute and elective Gastroenterology patients.
- Participate in the Gastroenterology on-call and GI bleed rota.
- Provide inpatient ward rounds and specialist referrals.
- Contribute to multidisciplinary meetings including GI cancer, HPB, liver and IBD MDTs.
- Supervise and teach junior doctors and multidisciplinary colleagues.
- Participate in clinical governance, audit and quality improvement initiatives.
- Contribute to research and service development projects.
- Support continuing professional development and departmental education.

Person Specification
Qualifications
Essential
- MRCP or equivalent.
- Entry on the GMC Specialist Register (or within six months of obtaining CCT/CCST/CESR in Gastroenterology and General Internal Medicine).
- CESR or European Community Rights.
Desirable
- MD or equivalent higher degree.
- Evidence of relevant research.
Experience & Skills
Essential
- Previous NHS experience.
- High standard of clinical expertise in Gastroenterology.
- Competency in therapeutic upper and lower GI endoscopy.
- Ability to contribute to the full Gastroenterology on-call rota.
- Excellent communication, organisational and interpersonal skills.
- Teaching experience and commitment to education.
- Ability to lead teams and work collaboratively with multidisciplinary colleagues.
- Experience undertaking clinical audit and governance activities.
Desirable
- Subspecialty interest within Gastroenterology.
- Research publications and evidence of academic activity.
