An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Consultant Histopathologist to join a highly regarded Histopathology service in South East England.
The successful candidate will provide consultant-led Histopathology services across a broad range of surgical pathology and cytology, working alongside experienced consultant colleagues within a collaborative multidisciplinary environment. The department offers excellent opportunities to develop specialist interests, participate in MDT leadership, contribute to teaching and research, and help shape future pathology services, including Digital Histopathology.

Main Duties & Responsibilities

• Provide consultant-led Histopathology services of the highest standard.
• Participate in routine surgical pathology reporting and specimen dissection.
• Attend and contribute to multidisciplinary team (MDT) meetings.
• Lead Cell Pathology within at least one MDT according to departmental requirements.
• Refer specialist cases to appropriate referral centres.
• Support development of clinical pathways and departmental guidelines.
• Supervise and support junior doctors, biomedical scientists and laboratory staff.
• Participate in audit, governance, quality improvement and service development.
• Contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, research and continuing professional development.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

• Full GMC Registration with Licence to Practise.
• Entry on the GMC Specialist Register (or within six months of CCT).
• FRCPath or equivalent qualification.
• CCT (or equivalent Portfolio Pathway).

Desirable

• Training in appraisal techniques.
• Service development experience or knowledge.

Experience & Skills

Essential

• Previous NHS experience.
• Ability to independently report surgical pathology.
• Evidence of clinical audit.
• Experience working within multidisciplinary teams.
• Strong organisational, communication and IT skills.
• Ability to prioritise complex workloads.
• Commitment to clinical governance and evidence-based practice.
• Leadership qualities with enthusiasm for education and continuous improvement.

Desirable

• Experience performing post-mortem examinations.
• Educational or Clinical Supervisor experience.
• Management and teaching skills.
• Knowledge of current NHS priorities.
• Research experience and peer-reviewed publications.
