An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Consultant Psychiatrist in Older Adult Psychiatry to join a well-established Community Mental Health Team delivering specialist community care to older adults.This established consultant post sits within a supportive, multidisciplinary service, offering work across Community Mental Health, Memory, and Care Home Liaison services, as well as service development, teaching, and leadership.
You'll join an experienced team committed to high-quality, person-centred mental health care for older adults, with opportunities to develop specialist interests, undertake research, and help shape future services.
The Role
As Consultant Psychiatrist, you will:
- Provide consultant leadership within the Community Mental Health Team for Older Adults.
- Deliver specialist assessment, diagnosis and treatment for older adults with a wide range of mental health conditions.
- Provide consultant input to the Memory Service and Care Home Liaison Team.
- Undertake outpatient clinics, community assessments and home visits.
- Manage patients presenting with dementia, mood disorders, psychosis, anxiety and other complex mental health conditions.
- Provide specialist advice and support to GPs, multidisciplinary colleagues and partner organisations.
- Participate in Mental Health Act assessments and fulfil Responsible Clinician duties where appropriate.
- Lead multidisciplinary decision-making, risk management and service planning.
- Support the continuous development of high-quality community mental health services.
- Participate in the consultant on-call rota.

Person Specific
Requirements
Essential
Applicants must have:
- MBBS (or equivalent medical qualification).
- Full GMC registration with a licence to practise.
- Inclusion on the GMC Specialist Register, or be within six months of obtaining CCT.
- Approved Clinician status (or ability to obtain shortly after appointment).
- Section 12 approval (or ability to obtain shortly after appointment).
- Experience assessing and treating patients within community mental health services.
- Expertise in Older Adult Psychiatry, including the assessment and management of complex psychiatric presentations.
- Excellent multidisciplinary leadership and communication skills.
- Commitment to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching.
- Experience in clinical audit and research.
- Evidence of management and leadership skills.
Desirable
- CCT in Older Adult Psychiatry.
- MRCPsych or equivalent approved by the Royal College of Psychiatrists.
- Higher postgraduate qualification (MD, PhD, MSc or equivalent).
- Experience as an Educational Supervisor.
- Published research and audit projects.
- Previous management experience.
- Expertise in alternative community-based models of care and service development.
