We are recruiting on behalf of a leading NHS teaching organisation in the East of England for a Consultant Anaesthetist with a special interest in Paediatric Anaesthesia.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a highly respected department supporting one of the busiest surgical services in the region. The successful candidate will join an experienced team of paediatric anaesthetists, delivering paediatric and adult anaesthetic services while participating in a dedicated paediatric on-call rota.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver consultant-led anaesthetic care for paediatric patients across a wide range of surgical specialities.
  • Provide anaesthesia for adult patients in accordance with individual training and experience.
  • Undertake comprehensive peri-operative assessment and optimisation of surgical patients.
  • Participate in the dedicated paediatric anaesthetic on-call rota (approximately 1:7).
  • Support the emergency management and stabilisation of critically ill children alongside multidisciplinary teams.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings and collaborative patient care.
  • Contribute to clinical governance, audit, quality improvement and patient safety initiatives.
  • Support undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and supervision.
  • Participate in departmental research and innovation projects.
  • Contribute to service development and continuous improvement within the anaesthesia department.


Person Specification

Essential

Qualifications

  • Full GMC Registration with a licence to practise.
  • FRCA or equivalent qualification.
  • Advanced Training in Paediatric Anaesthesia or equivalent.
  • Entry on the GMC Specialist Register in Anaesthesia via CCT (or within six months of interview), CESR or equivalent specialist recognition.


Experience

  • Training equivalent to at least five years of NHS specialist anaesthesia training.
  • Advanced experience in Paediatric Anaesthesia.
  • Training and expertise in children's safeguarding.
  • Experience delivering anaesthesia across both paediatric and adult surgical specialities.
  • Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams.

Desirable

Qualifications

  • MD, PhD or other postgraduate qualification (PGCert, PGDip or MSc).
  • ALS, EPLS or ATLS Instructor status (or equivalent).

 

Experience

  • Experience in anaesthesia for scoliosis surgery.
  • Experience in paediatric pain management.
  • Experience in paediatric critical care.
  • Experience in neonatal anaesthesia.
  • Experience in ultrasound-guided regional anaesthesia.
  • Experience in anaesthesia for major general surgery.
  • Previous responsibility for service improvement.
  • Management experience.
  • Research experience and peer-reviewed publications.


Professional Interests

  • PGCert in Medical Education or equivalent.
  • Up-to-date Good Clinical Practice (GCP) training.
  • Active involvement in education, research and quality improvement initiatives.
