Geriatric Medicine - Locum Consultant
Apply nowAn excellent opportunity is available for a Locum Consultant Physician in Geriatric Medicine to join a progressive and expanding Older Persons and General Internal Medicine service in Ireland.
This Consultant Geriatric Medicine position offers the opportunity to work within a highly developed, multidisciplinary medical service that provides specialist care for older persons while contributing to General Internal Medicine services. The successful candidate will play a key role in delivering acute geriatric care, frailty management, stroke rehabilitation support, integrated care pathways, and consultant-led inpatient and outpatient services.
Main Duties & Responsibilities
The Consultant Physician in Geriatric Medicine will:
• Contribute to the General Internal Medicine on-call rota• Provide acute inpatient General Medicine and Geriatric Medicine services
• Deliver specialist geriatric assessment and management
• Conduct specialist geriatric outpatient clinics
• Provide inpatient geriatric consultation services
• Support frailty and older persons pathways
• Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams across acute and community services
• Support Clinical Nurse Specialists and Advanced Nurse Practitioners within Older Persons Services
• Participate in integrated care development for older persons
• Contribute to falls prevention, frailty, rehabilitation, medication safety, and end-of-life care initiatives
• Participate in clinical governance, audit, and quality improvement programmes
• Supervise NCHDs, trainees, and junior medical staff
• Participate in multidisciplinary ward rounds and case discussions
• Maintain high standards of patient-centred care and clinical documentation
• Contribute to service development and innovation within Geriatric Medicine and General Internal Medicine

Person Specification
Requirements
Essential
• Registration as a Specialist in the Specialist Division of the Medical Council in Ireland for both General Internal Medicine and Geriatric Medicine• Active Specialist Registrar registration with the Irish Medical Council in both GIM and Geriatric Medicine
• Minimum 1 year NHS experience
• Experience in acute General Internal Medicine and Geriatric Medicine
• Strong multidisciplinary working skills
• Excellent communication and leadership abilities
• Ability to contribute to acute and community integrated care pathways
• Experience managing frailty, complex elderly patients, and rehabilitation care
• Access to transport
Desirable
• Irish or UK clinical experience• Experience in integrated care for older persons
• Experience in stroke and rehabilitation medicine
• Leadership or service development experience
• Audit and quality improvement involvement
• Teaching and supervision experience
• Experience working within multidisciplinary frailty services
