An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Consultant Rheumatologist to join a highly regarded and supportive Rheumatology department in Yorkshire and the Humber.
This is a newly established consultant post, created to expand an effective and experienced rheumatology team comprising established consultants, specialist nurses, and multidisciplinary colleagues. The service offers a friendly work culture, strong collaboration among consultants, and excellent quality-of-life opportunities.
Candidates must be on the GMC Specialist Register or within 6 months of CCT/CESR at the interview stage.
Main Duties of the Job
Clinical Responsibilities
- Deliver high-quality consultant-led Rheumatology care.
- Manage outpatient rheumatology services, including routine and urgent referrals.
- Work collaboratively with specialist nurses and allied health professionals.
- Provide expert advice to colleagues across the organisation.
- Liaise with GPs, social care, and external organisations.
- Maintain service standards and contribute to future development.
Teaching / Education
- Teach junior doctors, nurses, AHPs, and wider staff groups.
- Participate in undergraduate and postgraduate education.
- Support trainee supervision, appraisal, and accreditation duties.
Governance / Audit
- Participate in audit and clinical effectiveness programmes.
- Support Clinical Governance frameworks and quality improvement.
- Maintain appraisal, CME, and specialist accreditation requirements.
Management / Leadership
- Contribute to the Directorate and Trust strategy.
- Participate in service planning and improvement projects.
- Help shape future Rheumatology services.
Person Specification
Requirements
Essential
- MBBS / equivalent medical qualification
- MRCP (or equivalent)
- Full GMC Registration with a licence to practise
- Minimum 1 year NHS experience
- GMC Specialist Register in Rheumatology or within 6 months of CCT/CESR
- Broad Rheumatology training and consultant-level capability
- Commitment to audit and service development
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Understanding of Clinical Governance
Desirable
- MD / MSc / PhD or higher qualification
- Additional Rheumatology diplomas
- Specialist interest complements the current team
- Research publications
- Leadership/management experience
- Teaching innovation experience
