An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Consultant Clinical Neurophysiologist to join a progressive neuroscience service in North West England.
The successful candidate will contribute to a growing Neurophysiology service providing outpatient investigations, inpatient support, and diagnostic services across multiple sites. This is a flexible post available on a full-time or part-time basis, with opportunities for both Locum Consultant and Substantive Consultant appointments.
The service is expanding, including support for a new Community Diagnostic Centre, and welcomes applicants with subspecialty interests in any area of Neurophysiology.
Main Duties of the Job
Clinical Responsibilities
- Provide consultant-led Clinical Neurophysiology services across multiple sites.
- Deliver outpatient and inpatient neurophysiological investigations.
- Perform and report tests, including EEG, EMG, nerve conduction studies, and related diagnostics.
- Support acute hospital in-reach services when required.
- Provide advice and guidance to GPs and consultant colleagues during office hours.
- Maintain safe, evidence-based, patient-centred diagnostic pathways.
Service Development / Leadership
- Contribute to the further development of Clinical Neurophysiology services.
- Support innovation, audit, and pathway redesign.
- Work collaboratively with neurology, acute medicine, community, and tertiary neuroscience teams.
- Participate in departmental management and governance.
- Help shape responsive, high-quality neuroscience services across the region.
Teaching / Governance / Research
- Participate in postgraduate medical education.
- Teach Clinical Physiologists, junior doctors, nursing staff, and MDT colleagues.
- Provide professional and clinical supervision to Neurophysiology staff.
- Participate in appraisal, revalidation, clinical governance, and audit.
- Contribute to research activity where appropriate.
Person Specification
Qualifications
Essential
- Full GMC Registration with a licence to practise
- MRCP or equivalent
- Clinical training and experience equivalent to UK CCT in Clinical Neurophysiology
- Minimum 1 year NHS experience
Desirable
- MD or PhD
- Entry on Specialist Register in Clinical Neurophysiology (or within 6 months)
- Special interest in any Neurophysiology subspecialty
