An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Consultant Haematologist to join a progressive and supportive service in the East of England. This substantive consultant role offers the opportunity to provide a comprehensive clinical and laboratory haematology service while benefiting from dedicated specialist development time at a tertiary centre.

The successful candidate will join an established consultant team and will have 1 day per week at CUH to develop a chosen subspecialty interest, supporting long-term consultant progression and advanced practice.

Main Duties of the Job

Clinical Responsibilities

  • Provide consultant-led inpatient and outpatient haematology services.
  • Manage new referrals, follow up with patients, and attend chemotherapy/day units.
  • Conduct regular specialist and follow-up clinics.
  • Participate in coagulation/thrombosis clinics.
  • Perform ward rounds and provide consultant reviews.
  • Offer specialist advice on blood disorders, transfusion support, bone marrow results, and clotting conditions.

Specialist Interest Development

  • Specialist interest supported with protected development time.
  • 1 day/week at CUH for tertiary exposure and subspecialty practice.
  • Opportunities may include:
    • Myeloma
    • Lymphoma
    • Acute leukaemia
    • Myeloproliferative disorders
    • Stem cell transplant follow-up
    • Complex haemato-oncology services

Leadership / Education / Governance

  • Participate in clinical governance, audit, GIRFT, and service redesign programmes.
  • Support junior doctors, trainees, and multidisciplinary staff.
  • Act as an educational /clinical supervisor where appropriate.
  • Contribute to pathway improvement and future service planning.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
  • MRCP Part 1 and Part 2
  • Full GMC Registration with a licence to practise
  • CCT/CESR in Haematology or within 6 months of completion
  • Minimum 1 year NHS experience

Experience

Essential

  • Broad experience in clinical and laboratory haematology
  • Independent management of complex haematology patients
  • Experience in haemato-oncology pathways
  • Knowledge of coagulation and transfusion medicine
  • Audit and quality improvement involvement
  • Effective MDT working skills
