An excellent opportunity has arisen for a Consultant in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery to join a well-established and supportive specialist department in the East of England. This fixed-term post is offered as 9 months maternity leave cover on a full-time basis.
The successful candidate will have a special interest in facial deformity / orthognathic surgery and will work within a busy tertiary referral service delivering high-quality care across a broad range of oral and maxillofacial conditions.
Candidates with 1 year of NHS experience are encouraged to apply.
Main Duties of the Job
- Provide Consultant-led Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery services across elective and emergency pathways.
- Deliver specialist care in facial deformity and orthognathic surgery.
- Manage the full spectrum of oral and maxillofacial conditions, including trauma cases.
- Participate in outpatient clinics, theatre operating lists, inpatient care, and MDT meetings.
- Work collaboratively with orthodontists, anaesthetists, nursing teams, and allied professionals.
- Participate in the Consultant on-call rota (approx. 1:11).
- Support departmental teaching, training, and supervision of junior staff.
- Take part in clinical governance, audit, appraisal, and quality improvement initiatives.
- Contribute to research and service development projects.
- Work flexibly across sites to meet service needs.
Person Specification
Qualifications
Essential
- Full GMC Registration with Licence to Practise
- Full GDC Registration
- Entry on the GMC Specialist Register in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery
- CCT in OMFS or within 6 months of the interview date
Desirable
- Postgraduate qualification
- Fellowship in Facial Deformity / Orthognathic / Trauma
- Additional subspecialty training in facial deformity
Experience
Essential
- Minimum 1 year NHS experience
- High level of clinical competence in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery
- Independent responsibility for patient care
- Experience managing trauma and acute OMFS presentations
- Expertise in facial deformity / orthognathic pathways
- Experience working in multidisciplinary teams
- Experience in safeguarding children
- Teaching and supervision experience
