An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Temporary Consultant Gastroenterologist to join a progressive and patient-focused acute service in Ireland.

The successful candidate will deliver high-quality gastroenterology care across inpatient, outpatient, and endoscopy services, working within a collaborative multidisciplinary team. This role offers broad clinical exposure, along with opportunities to contribute to service development, teaching, and innovation in a modern healthcare environment.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive gastroenterology services across outpatient clinics, inpatient care, and endoscopy units.
  • Perform and interpret diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures.
  • Manage a wide range of gastrointestinal conditions, including acute and chronic disorders.
  • Participate in the consultant on-call rota as required.
  • Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams, including medical, surgical, and allied health professionals.
  • Contribute to the development and expansion of gastroenterology services.
  • Participate in clinical governance, audit, and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Support teaching and training of junior doctors and medical students.
  • Maintain high standards of clinical documentation, patient safety, and care delivery.

Person Specification

Qualifications & Registration

Essential

  • Medical degree (MBBS or equivalent).
  • Specialist registration with the Irish Medical Council (IMC) (Specialist Division).
  • Relevant postgraduate qualification in Gastroenterology (or equivalent).
  • MCRN (Medical Council Registration Number) with Specialist Registration.

Experience

Essential

  • Extensive experience at Consultant level in Gastroenterology.
  • Experience in General Internal Medicine.
  • Strong experience in diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy.
  • Experience working within multidisciplinary clinical environments.

Desirable

  • Subspecialty interest within gastroenterology.
  • Experience in service development or leadership roles.
