An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Temporary Consultant Gastroenterologist to join a progressive and patient-focused acute service in Ireland.
The successful candidate will deliver high-quality gastroenterology care across inpatient, outpatient, and endoscopy services, working within a collaborative multidisciplinary team. This role offers broad clinical exposure, along with opportunities to contribute to service development, teaching, and innovation in a modern healthcare environment.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive gastroenterology services across outpatient clinics, inpatient care, and endoscopy units.
- Perform and interpret diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures.
- Manage a wide range of gastrointestinal conditions, including acute and chronic disorders.
- Participate in the consultant on-call rota as required.
- Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams, including medical, surgical, and allied health professionals.
- Contribute to the development and expansion of gastroenterology services.
- Participate in clinical governance, audit, and quality improvement initiatives.
- Support teaching and training of junior doctors and medical students.
- Maintain high standards of clinical documentation, patient safety, and care delivery.
Person Specification
Qualifications & Registration
Essential
- Medical degree (MBBS or equivalent).
- Specialist registration with the Irish Medical Council (IMC) (Specialist Division).
- Relevant postgraduate qualification in Gastroenterology (or equivalent).
- MCRN (Medical Council Registration Number) with Specialist Registration.
Experience
Essential
- Extensive experience at Consultant level in Gastroenterology.
- Experience in General Internal Medicine.
- Strong experience in diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy.
- Experience working within multidisciplinary clinical environments.
Desirable
- Subspecialty interest within gastroenterology.
- Experience in service development or leadership roles.
