An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Clinical Fellow in Respiratory Medicine to join a dynamic and well-established team in Greater London.
This post offers extensive clinical exposure across a wide spectrum of respiratory medicine, including lung cancer, pleural disease, bronchoscopy, Endobronchial Ultrasound (EBUS), and medical thoracoscopy. It is ideally suited for doctors at ST6/IMT6 level aiming to pursue a career in Respiratory Medicine.
The successful candidate will benefit from structured supervision, opportunities in acute and general medicine, and active involvement in audit, research, and quality improvement initiatives.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
- Support the day-to-day functioning of the Respiratory Medicine service, including inpatient and outpatient care.
- Conduct ward rounds and manage respiratory inpatients, including complex and acute cases.
- Deliver outpatient clinics, including routine and Two-Week Wait (TWR) referrals.
- Perform respiratory procedures, including bronchoscopy, pleural procedures, and thoracocentesis, under appropriate consultant supervision.
- Provide in-reach support to acute services, including the Clinical Assessment Unit and emergency admissions.
- Participate in the management of acute respiratory failure, including the use of CPAP and non-invasive ventilation (NIV).
- Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams, including emergency medicine, critical care, and medical specialities.
- Contribute to clinical governance to ensure safe, effective, and high-quality patient care.
- Participate in audit, research, and Quality Improvement Projects (QIPs).
- Support undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, including supervision of junior doctors and medical students.
- Engage in continuing professional development (CPD) and appraisal processes.
Person Specification
Qualifications & Registration
Essential
- MBBS or equivalent medical qualification.
- Full registration with the General Medical Council (GMC).
Desirable
- Completion of training in General Medicine with an interest in Respiratory Medicine.
Experience
Essential
- Experience working within an NHS hospital setting.
- Experience managing respiratory patients in acute and inpatient settings.
- Minimum 1 year of NHS experience.
Desirable
- Experience in respiratory procedures such as bronchoscopy or pleural interventions.
- Experience in audit, research, or quality improvement work.
