An exciting opportunity has arisen for two Consultant Rheumatologists to join a dynamic multidisciplinary team delivering comprehensive rheumatology care to a large population with a high prevalence of musculoskeletal disease.

The department is progressing a modern hub-and-spoke service model, with strong support for service development — particularly the implementation of a NICE-compliant Early Arthritis Service. Consultants will benefit from a collaborative MDT environment, including specialist nurses, pharmacists, and extended-scope physiotherapists, as well as opportunities to develop subspecialty interests.
 

Main Duties of the Job

  • Provide a comprehensive outpatient Rheumatology service, including specialist clinics and non-invasive investigations
  • Deliver inpatient and day-case Rheumatology care with rotational contribution across sites
  • Manage internal Rheumatology referrals from AMU and other hospital departments
  • Lead and develop an Early Arthritis Service aligned with NICE guidance
  • Support management of Rheumatology inpatients during working hours (no acute medical on-call commitment)
  • Contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate medical education and supervision of trainees
  • Participate in clinical governance, audit, and quality improvement initiatives
  • Engage in research and service development activities within Rheumatology
  • Work collaboratively with primary care and community services to promote early intervention and care closer to home

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
  • MRCP or equivalent
  • Full GMC registration with a licence to practise

Desirable

  • MRCP Part 1

Experience

Essential

  • Minimum 1 year NHS experience
  • Previous experience in General Medicine

Desirable

  • Experience in DEXA scanning and Rheumatology-related procedures

Special Skills & Knowledge

Essential

  • Evidence of training in clinical management
  • Understanding of clinical audit and commitment to ongoing audit participation
  • Advanced Life Support (ALS)
  • Interest in research and service development
