An exciting opportunity has arisen for two Consultant Rheumatologists to join a dynamic multidisciplinary team delivering comprehensive rheumatology care to a large population with a high prevalence of musculoskeletal disease.
The department is progressing a modern hub-and-spoke service model, with strong support for service development — particularly the implementation of a NICE-compliant Early Arthritis Service. Consultants will benefit from a collaborative MDT environment, including specialist nurses, pharmacists, and extended-scope physiotherapists, as well as opportunities to develop subspecialty interests.
Main Duties of the Job
- Provide a comprehensive outpatient Rheumatology service, including specialist clinics and non-invasive investigations
- Deliver inpatient and day-case Rheumatology care with rotational contribution across sites
- Manage internal Rheumatology referrals from AMU and other hospital departments
- Lead and develop an Early Arthritis Service aligned with NICE guidance
- Support management of Rheumatology inpatients during working hours (no acute medical on-call commitment)
- Contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate medical education and supervision of trainees
- Participate in clinical governance, audit, and quality improvement initiatives
- Engage in research and service development activities within Rheumatology
- Work collaboratively with primary care and community services to promote early intervention and care closer to home
Person Specification
Qualifications
Essential
- MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
- MRCP or equivalent
- Full GMC registration with a licence to practise
Desirable
- MRCP Part 1
Experience
Essential
- Minimum 1 year NHS experience
- Previous experience in General Medicine
Desirable
- Experience in DEXA scanning and Rheumatology-related procedures
Special Skills & Knowledge
Essential
- Evidence of training in clinical management
- Understanding of clinical audit and commitment to ongoing audit participation
- Advanced Life Support (ALS)
- Interest in research and service development
