We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Consultant Geriatrician to join a progressive and supportive Older People’s Medicine service in the South West. This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to high-quality frailty and geriatric services across inpatient, outpatient, and community settings, while developing individual subspecialty interests within a collaborative multidisciplinary environment.

Main Duties and Responsibilities
- Deliver high-quality inpatient and outpatient care for older patients, including acute frailty management.
- Lead consultant ward rounds and multidisciplinary team (MDT) meetings across frailty and geriatric wards
- Contribute to front-door frailty services and community-based geriatric care pathways.
- Participate in the General Internal Medicine on-call rota, including speciality weekend cover.
- Support safe and effective discharge planning in collaboration with therapy and community teams.
- Provide supervision, mentoring, and teaching for junior doctors, ACPs, and MDT colleagues.
- Actively contribute to clinical governance, audit, quality improvement, and research activities.
- Support service development and innovation within geriatric and frailty services
Job Plan
- Standard 10 PA job plan (flexible and negotiable)
- Mix of Direct Clinical Care (DCC) and Supporting Professional Activities (SPA)
- Dedicated SPA time for CPD, teaching, audit, and research
- Opportunities to develop subspecialty interests such as frailty, orthogeriatrics, community geriatrics, or movement disorders
Person Specification
Essential Criteria
- Complete GMC registration with a licence to practise
- Entry on the GMC Specialist Register in Geriatric Medicine and General Internal Medicine
- (or within 6 months of CCT / CESR application submitted)
- MRCP or equivalent qualification
- Minimum 1 year NHS experience at consultant or senior speciality level
- Proven experience managing complex geriatric and general medical patients
- Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team
- Strong communication, leadership, and organisational skills
- Understanding of clinical governance, audit, and quality improvement
Desirable Criteria
- Current ALS certification or equivalent
- Subspecialty interest that complements existing services
- Evidence of involvement in research or quality improvement projects
- Formal leadership or management training
Teaching, Audit & Research
- Commitment to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching
- Active participation in clinical audit and service improvement
- Ability to critically appraise research and apply evidence-based practice
- Opportunities to participate in national and commercial research studies
