An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and motivated Consultant Radiologist with a specialist interest in Nuclear Medicine to join a modern, expanding radiology service in the North West region. This role offers the opportunity to work in a dynamic, forward-thinking department equipped with state-of-the-art imaging technology, a growing consulting team, and an organisational commitment to innovation, artificial intelligence, and high-quality patient care.
You will join a multi-professional radiology team providing diagnostic services across acute and community settings, with opportunities for leadership, teaching, research, and service development.
Primary Duties of the Job
Clinical Responsibilities
The post holder will provide a full range of Diagnostic Radiology services, including:
- CT, MRI, Plain Film and Ultrasound reporting.
- Diagnostic Nuclear Medicine, including a broad portfolio of examinations and cardiac imaging.
- Regular reporting of SPECT-CT studies requires extensive experience and advanced interpretation skills.
- Supporting diagnostic services across acute and community hospital sites.
- Participating in the Radiologist of the Day rota, designed to improve efficiency and minimise interruptions (currently under review as the team expands).
Experience in advanced nuclear medicine imaging techniques and a strong understanding of current best practice are essential.
Candidates should also demonstrate formal training in Nuclear Medicine and the ability to maintain high diagnostic accuracy across their general radiology practice.
Teaching & Training

You will be expected to:
- Teach undergraduate medical students from regional universities.
- Deliver teaching for postgraduate trainees (Foundation, Core and Speciality Trainees).
- Participate in supervision and mentorship of junior doctors, radiographers and allied health learners.
- Engage in multidisciplinary education and simulation-based training.
- Participate in CPD, faculty development programmes and educational meetings.

Clinical Audit
- Contribute to local, regional, and national audit programmes.

Research & Development
Research is a core element of service delivery and has strong links to regional academic institutions.
The post holder will:
- Support NIHR portfolio studies.
- Participate in developing in-house research.
- Have opportunities for honorary academic appointments, particularly with universities in the North West.
- Supervise MSc and PhD students if desired.
- Help advance the evidence base in nuclear medicine and radiology.
A track record of self-directed research is desirable but not essential.

Continuing Professional Development
You are expected to:
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge and skills in diagnostic radiology and nuclear medicine.
- Participate in CPD and CME activities in accordance with the Royal College of Radiologists' guidance.
- Engage in annual appraisal and revalidation processes.
- Develop and maintain a Personal Development Plan (PDP)
Contractual and Associated Duties
- Uphold responsibility for patient care and safe, effective service delivery.
- Undertake administrative tasks related to clinical work.
- Collaborate with colleagues across primary and secondary care to optimise imaging pathways.
- Support the efficient use of imaging technologies and PACS systems.
- Participate in annual job plan reviews and objective setting.
On-Call Duties
- Participation in a 1:18 on-call rota.
- Overnight CT reporting is supported by outsourced services (20:00–09:00 weekdays; 15:00–09:00 weekends and bank holidays) to reduce night-time disruptions.
- Participation in the Radiologist of the Day rota (subject to ongoing review).

Legal Requirements
Essential
- Full GMC registration
- On the Specialist Register (or within 6 months of attaining CCT/CESR)
Education & Qualifications
Essential
- MBChB or equivalent
- FRCR or equivalent
- Postgraduate certification in Nuclear Medicine
- Minimum 1 year of NHS experience
Desirable
- Subspecialty fellowship in Nuclear Medicine
- Higher academic degree (MD/PhD/MSc)
Skills & Abilities
Essential
- Extensive experience in diagnostic nuclear medicine reporting, including SPECT-CT
- Strong general radiology skills across CT, MRI, Ultrasound and Plain Film
- Ability to supervise junior staff and lead multidisciplinary teams
- Excellent verbal and written communication
- Organisational, prioritisation and delegation skills
- Leadership ability with confidence in decision-making
- Working knowledge of RIS/PACS
