A highly skilled Temporary Consultant Neurologist is required for a 12-month POCC23 contract within the Ireland region. This role offers an immediate start and the opportunity to deliver consultant-level neurological care within a large, supportive multidisciplinary team.
The successful applicant will provide comprehensive neurology services, contribute to emergency and elective care pathways, and take part in the consultant on-call rota. This position is ideal for neurologists who want to make a meaningful impact while further advancing their clinical, leadership, and educational experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide expert neurological assessments and specialist consultations for inpatient and outpatient services.
- Lead the management of acute and chronic neurological presentations with sound, evidence-based clinical judgment.
- Participate in the on-call rota to support urgent neurological care needs.
- Work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team to deliver high-quality, patient-focused neurology services.
- Educate and supervise junior medical staff, supporting continuous learning and development.
- Contribute to strategic service planning, quality improvement initiatives, and pathway optimisation.
- Maintain exceptional standards of communication with patients, carers, GPs, and clinical colleagues.
- Ensure accurate, timely, and compliant clinical documentation.
- Demonstrate strong organisational, time-management, and prioritisation skills.
Essential Requirements
- Irish Medical Council Specialist Registration (mandatory).
- Minimum 1 year of NHS experience in Neurology.
- Proven expertise in neurological care, including both emergency and long-term condition management.
- Evidence-based clinical decision-making and diagnostic skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication abilities.
- Experience working effectively within multidisciplinary teams.
- Demonstrated commitment to patient dignity, safety, and high-quality care.
- Competence with IT systems, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and clinical electronic platforms.
Desirable Attributes
- Previous consultant-level experience relevant to this neurology role.
- Experience in teaching, training, and supervising junior clinical staff.
- Ability to facilitate group learning and provide constructive feedback.
- Participation in service development or clinical leadership.
- Research experience or involvement in audit and clinical governance.
