We are seeking a dynamic and enthusiastic Consultant Gastroenterologist to join our dedicated medical team in the South East Region. This is an exciting opportunity to play a leading role in delivering high-quality gastroenterology services, including inpatient, outpatient, and endoscopic care.

Main Duties and Responsibilities
Clinical Duties
- Provide a high-quality, comprehensive gastroenterology service, including inpatient, outpatient, and endoscopic care.
- Hold clinical responsibility for the diagnosis, treatment, and ongoing management of gastroenterological patients.
- Participate fully in the ongoing development of the gastroenterology service, in alignment with national standards, NICE frameworks, and best clinical practice.
- Engage in regular medical audits, clinical governance meetings, and other quality assurance activities to drive continuous improvement.
- Take part in the 1:11 General Medical on-call rota, providing advice and cover for colleagues' annual leave and other absences.
- Ensure timely communication and continuity of care across multidisciplinary teams.
Teaching and Training
- Take an active role in the teaching and supervision of junior medical staff, medical students, and allied health professionals.
- Participate in local and national continuing medical education (CME) activities.
- Contribute to postgraduate education, examinations, and accreditation duties as required.
Leadership and Management
- Provide professional supervision and mentoring to junior doctors.
- Contribute to service planning, clinical leadership, and quality improvement initiatives.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues and management teams to ensure efficient and effective service delivery.
Clinical Governance and Research
- Participate in clinical audit, morbidity and mortality reviews, and other governance-related activities.
- Promote and uphold clinical excellence, patient safety, and evidence-based practice.
- Opportunities for research and service development are encouraged within the framework of the agreed job plan.
Professional Development
- Maintain Continuing Professional Development (CPD) in line with GMC and Royal College requirements.
- Attend audit, clinical governance, and multidisciplinary meetings as part of ongoing professional commitment.
- Engage in the Trust's appraisal and revalidation process.
Person Specification
Qualifications (Essential):
- MBBS or equivalent medical qualification.
- Complete GMC registration with a licence to practise.
- Entry on the GMC Specialist Register (or within 6 months of achieving CCT at the time of interview).
- MRCP (UK) or equivalent qualification recognised by the GMC.
Qualifications (Desirable):
- Higher degree (MD, PhD, or Master's).
- Additional training in Thoracoscopy or Pleural Ultrasound.
- Subspecialty interest within Gastroenterology (e.g., Hepatology, IBD).
Experience and Skills (Essential):
- Demonstrable experience in general and specialist gastroenterology.
- Proven ability to take independent responsibility for patient care.
- Experience in diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy.
- Experience in postgraduate teaching and training.
- Knowledge of current trends and best practices within the speciality.
- Commitment to high-quality, evidence-based patient care.
- Competence in IT systems and digital patient records.
Experience and Skills (Desirable):
- Research or published audit work in Gastroenterology.
- Service development or leadership experience.
