An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Consultant Physician in Diabetes and Endocrinology to join a dynamic and forward-thinking department in the North West Region.
This is an excellent time to join a growing and innovative service that provides a full range of diabetes and endocrine care across inpatient and outpatient settings. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with consultant colleagues and multidisciplinary teams to deliver high-quality, patient-centred care and help shape the future of diabetes and endocrine services in the region.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide clinical leadership for inpatient diabetes and endocrinology care, including ward-based management and speciality referrals.
- Run outpatient clinics for general endocrinology and complex diabetes cases.
- Participate in the acute medical on-call rota, contributing to the wider acute medical service.
- Support service development, clinical audit, and quality improvement initiatives
- Supervise and teach medical trainees, students, and allied healthcare professionals.
- Contribute to strategic planning and continuous improvement of diabetes technology and endocrine services.
- Collaborate with regional centres for subspecialty interests such as adrenal, pituitary, and renal-endocrine disorders.

Contract and Working Arrangements
- Contract Type: Permanent or fixed-term (12 months initially)
- Programmed Activities: 10 PAs (8.0 DCC + 2.0 SPA; may vary by agreement)
- On-call Commitment: 1:24 weekday / 1:8 weekend (subject to service requirements)
- Minimum Requirement: 1 year of NHS experience
- Flexible working arrangements and job-share options will be considered.
Person Specification
Essential
- Complete GMC registration with a licence to practise
- MRCP (UK) or equivalent qualification
- Demonstrable experience managing both inpatient and outpatient diabetes and endocrine patients
- Proven ability to supervise, teach, and mentor junior medical staff
- Understanding of clinical governance, audit, and service development
- Excellent communication, leadership, and teamworking skills
Desirable
- MD, PhD, or other postgraduate academic qualification
- Evidence of research activity and peer-reviewed publications
- Experience developing subspecialty interests (e.g., pituitary, adrenal, diabetes technology)
- Management or leadership training
