An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and passionate Consultant in Medical Oncology to join a leading NHS service in the East Midlands. This permanent position offers the chance to play a vital role in providing high-quality cancer care, leading multidisciplinary teams, and contributing to ongoing service development within a progressive oncology department.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide expert clinical care across designated oncology tumour sites, ensuring safe, evidence-based treatment and management of all patients.
  • Lead and contribute to multidisciplinary team (MDT) meetings, maintaining the highest standards of national cancer care and peer review compliance.
  • Work collaboratively with consultant colleagues, nursing teams, and allied health professionals to deliver integrated oncology services.
  • Take shared responsibility for the effective clinical and operational performance of the oncology department.
  • Actively contribute to departmental and trust-wide clinical governance, quality assurance, and service improvement initiatives.
  • Engage in clinical research and trials, supporting innovation and continuous improvement in oncology practice.
  • Participate in teaching and supervision of junior doctors, medical students, and other healthcare staff.
  • Undertake continuing professional development (CPD), annual appraisal, and revalidation activities.
  • Contribute to management discussions, policy development, and long-term service planning.
  • Maintain compliance with all professional, departmental, and NHS policies and procedures.

Essential Requirements

  • Complete GMC Registration with a licence to practise.
  • MRCP (UK) or an equivalent postgraduate qualification.
  • Inclusion on the GMC Specialist Register (or within 6 months of CCT/CESR(CP) at interview).
  • Minimum 1 year of NHS experience.
  • Proven competence in the management of solid tumour oncology.
  • Strong commitment to multidisciplinary working, quality improvement, and clinical leadership.
  • Excellent communication, organisation, and team collaboration skills.

Desirable Attributes

  • Active participation in clinical research and national trials.
  • Previous involvement in teaching, audit, and service redesign.
  • Interest in developing subspecialty expertise within the department.
  • Experience in contributing to CESR mentorship or oncology trainee supervision.
