An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and motivated Speciality Doctor (ST4+) to join the Emergency Medicine team in the South East region. This role offers a stimulating balance of clinical responsibility, professional development, and teaching opportunities within a dynamic and supportive department.

The post is a 10 PA position, with the option for additional sessions under an APA contract, and comes with an individualised job plan tailored to your professional goals. The successful candidate will work alongside a diverse and skilled multidisciplinary team, contributing to the delivery of high-quality emergency care while benefiting from a strong focus on education, innovation, and career progression.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide high-quality emergency medical care under consultant supervision, managing a wide range of acute presentations.
  • Participate in the resuscitation and management of critically ill and injured patients, maintaining up-to-date skills in ALS (ATLS, ETC, desirable but not essential).
  • Contribute to teaching and training programmes for medical staff, Physician Associates, Advanced Clinical Practitioners, and undergraduate medical students.
  • Engage with departmental improvement initiatives, innovation projects, and service development activities to enhance patient care and workflow efficiency.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues across multidisciplinary teams, including mental health, pre-hospital, and community services.
  • Participate in daily consultant-led ward and CDU rounds, with direct consultant support for self-rostered rotas on weekdays.
  • Attend and contribute to departmental meetings, audits, and clinical governance activities.
  • Support junior staff in clinical decision-making and development.
  • Maintain accurate clinical documentation and uphold professional standards at all times.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential:

  • MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
  • MREM is essential
  • Complete GMC registration with a licence to practise
  • Minimum 1 year of NHS experience

Desirable:

  • Completion of ALS (mandatory), with ATLS, ETC certification (desirable)

Experience

Essential:

  • Experience in Emergency Medicine at ST4 level or higher
  • Competence in managing a wide range of emergency presentations
  • Evidence of teaching experience or contribution to training programmes

Desirable:

  • Interest or experience in Point-of-Care Ultrasound (FAST scanning)
  • Involvement in departmental innovation, clinical audit, or quality improvement initiatives
