An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dynamic and motivated Consultant Dermatologist to join a friendly and supportive multidisciplinary team in the North West region. This is a substantive Clinical Lead role, suitable for a candidate who is passionate about driving clinical excellence, shaping dermatology services, and providing leadership in a collaborative environment.
The successful candidate will work closely with service managers, matrons, and fellow consultants to ensure the highest standards of patient care, service development, and clinical governance. You will also play a key role in teaching, supervising junior medical staff, and contributing to the strategic direction of dermatology services in the region.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide high-quality dermatology services, including outpatient clinics, diagnostics, and treatment.
- Lead and manage the dermatology service in collaboration with the service manager and matron, ensuring efficient resource management and adherence to clinical governance.
- Take shared responsibility for operational performance and quality of care within the department.
- Deliver teaching, training, and supervision to medical students, junior doctors, and nursing staff.
- Participate in clinical audits, research initiatives, and service development projects.
- Work collaboratively with other healthcare organisations, primary care providers, and voluntary organisations.
- Provide clinical leadership and guidance to colleagues and the wider multidisciplinary team.
- Contribute to rota cover, ensuring adequate departmental service during periods of absence or annual leave.
- Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of dermatological treatments and advancements, incorporating evidence-based practice.
- Actively participate in the appraisal and professional development of junior staff.
- Uphold high standards of infection control, patient safety, and confidentiality in line with NHS governance frameworks.
Person Specification
Qualifications (Essential):
- Complete GMC registration with a licence to practise.
- MRCP (UK) or equivalent qualification.
- On the GMC Specialist Register in Dermatology OR within 6 months of attaining CCT at the time of interview.
- Applicants via the CESR pathway will be considered if the GMC submission is complete by the interview date.
Experience (Essential):
- Broad experience in Dermatology, including acute and general dermatology.
- Demonstrated ability to manage a wide range of dermatology conditions.
- Experience in teaching and clinical supervision.
- Experience working effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Experience (Desirable):
- Evidence of sub-speciality interest that complements existing services.
- Recent involvement in research or clinical trials.
- Current ALS certificate or equivalent.
- Evidence of management training or leadership experience.
Skills & Attributes (Essential):
- Strong clinical, diagnostic, and decision-making skills.
- Excellent leadership and teamwork ability.
- Practical communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Commitment to clinical governance, service improvement, and patient safety.
- Ability to adapt flexibly to service needs.
Additional Criteria:
- Knowledge of clinical audit principles and evidence of participation in audit.

- Evidence of effective teaching and presentation skills.
- Occupational health clearance and enhanced DBS check.
