Radiology - Consultant with SI Breast

An enriching opportunity has arisen in the South East region for a Consultant Radiologist with a Special Interest in Breast Imaging to join a progressive and supportive Radiology department.
This is a full-time post (with part-time considered) within a well-equipped and well-staffed radiology service, supporting both symptomatic and breast screening populations. The department is part of a regional breast screening programme serving a population of nearly 100,000 women and offers opportunities for subspecialty work alongside core breast radiology.
This post offers the opportunity to join a team of collaborative and enthusiastic radiologists, with a healthy balance between NHS and optional private practice opportunities.
Main Responsibilities
Clinical Duties
- Deliver high-quality breast imaging services for both screening and symptomatic patients.
- Participate in MDT meetings to support collaborative diagnosis and management.
- Provide general radiological reporting in line with departmental needs.
- Take part in non-vascular interventional radiology (as applicable)
- Develop and lead in subspecialty areas of interest (e.g., chest, cardiac, MSK, neuroradiology, head & neck)
- Engage in teaching and training for undergraduate and postgraduate learners.
- Participate in the on-call rota as per departmental arrangements.
Leadership, Management & Governance
- Support the Clinical Lead in delivering strategic and operational goals.
- Promote excellent communication across multidisciplinary teams.
- Contribute to departmental service development and quality improvement initiatives.
- Participate in audit, appraisal, clinical risk management, and governance.
- Provide mentorship and guidance to junior colleagues.
- Ensure personal practice aligns with GMC and Royal College standards.
Research and Innovation
- Collaborate on academic activities with local universities (e.g., Oxford, Bristol, UWE)
- Support departmental research projects and contribute to publications or evaluations.
- Maintain a Personal Development Plan and support academic growth in the department.
Person Specification
Essential Criteria
- Complete GMC registration and license to practice
- Extensive clinical training/experience in diagnostic radiology, including breast imaging
- Ability to work independently and lead in a multidisciplinary team environment
- Committed to teaching, audit, service development, and patient safety
Desirable Criteria
- Subspecialty interests in Interventional Radiology, Neuroradiology, Chest & Cardiac, MSK, Head & Neck, or Paediatric Imaging
- Evidence of leadership skills or management training
- Experience in service transformation or digital health projects
- Involvement in clinical research or academic publication
