A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a Consultant in Orthodontics to join a well-established and expanding orthodontic service in the East Midlands. The successful candidate will become part of a dynamic multidisciplinary team of four Orthodontic Consultants delivering high-quality care in collaboration with Maxillofacial Surgery and Dental Laboratory teams across multiple sites within the region.
The role offers a varied clinical caseload, including routine secondary care orthodontics and complex multidisciplinary work, such as orthognathic and cleft lip and palate cases. The postholder will also play a key role in teaching and supervising trainees and junior staff, with strong links to the East Midlands Deanery.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
Clinical Responsibilities
- Provide a consultant-led specialist orthodontic service, delivering high-quality care across multiple hospital sites in the region.
- Participate in routine secondary care orthodontic clinics and joint orthognathic clinics (held fortnightly).
- Manage a caseload that includes multidisciplinary treatment plans in conjunction with Maxillofacial and Cleft Lip & Palate teams.
- Offer leadership and contribute to the development and delivery of a first-class, patient-centred orthodontic service.
- Collaborate effectively with therapists, technicians, and other dental and surgical specialists.
Person Specification
Qualifications and Training
Essential:
- BDS or equivalent dental qualification
- Entry on the GDC Specialist Register for Orthodontics
- Successful completion of the Intercollegiate Speciality Fellowship Examination (ISFE) or equivalent
- CCT or within 6 months of completion of post-CCST training
Desirable:
- Master's degree or higher qualification in Orthodontics (e.g., MClinDent, PhD)
Clinical Experience
Essential:
- Training and experience equivalent to UK ISFE in Orthodontics
- Ability to manage complex clinical cases independently
- Proven commitment to high standards of patient care
Desirable:
- At least 5 years of supervised training in Orthodontics post-qualification
- Experience in orthognathic and cleft case management
