Consultant Cardiothoracic Radiologist

An exciting opportunity is available for a Consultant Cardiothoracic Radiologist to join a growing and diverse Radiology team in Greater London. This new post has been created to meet increasing demand and support ongoing service expansion and transformation.
The successful candidate will deliver high-quality diagnostic services with a particular focus on cardio-thoracic imaging while also contributing to general radiology services and supporting multi-disciplinary teams across the Trust. There is flexibility in shaping the role based on individual sub-speciality interests, including opportunities to participate in cardiac CT and potentially cardiac MRI as the service expands.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver comprehensive cardio-thoracic imaging services, including support for lung cancer, screening, and nodule pathways.
- Lead and participate in clinic-radiological meetings and MDT discussions.
- Support and contribute to the cardiac CT service across multiple sites.
- Develop and support future cardiac MRI services as the department expands.
- Participate in the general radiology workload, including CT, MRI, ultrasound, and plain film reporting.
- Participate in the diagnostic radiology on-call rota
- Contribute to departmental clinical governance, quality improvement, and audit activities.
- Provide timely vetting of cross-sectional scans and assist with clinical queries from the wider medical team.
- Actively engage in departmental planning, operational meetings, and continuous service development.
- Support junior doctors, radiographers, and the wider multi-disciplinary team through teaching and supervision.
Person Specification
Qualifications
- Essential:
- Full GMC registration.
- MBBS or equivalent.
- Fellowship of the Royal College of Radiologists.
- Desirable:
- MRCP, MRCS, or equivalent.
- Specialist fellowship training in cardiothoracic radiology.
- CCT or CESR (or within six months of completion at interview).
Knowledge and Experience
Essential:
- NHS Experience Mandatory
- Strong general medical background.
- Proven ability to report a broad range of cross-sectional CT and MRI scans, particularly in body imaging.
- Extensive knowledge and experience in the reporting of chest diseases, including interstitial lung disease (ILD).
- Competence to independently support multi-disciplinary team (MDT) meetings as outlined in the job description.
- Ability to independently support the general radiology on-call service.
Desirable:
- Level 2 accreditation in cardiac CT.
- Formal subspecialty training in cardiothoracic radiology.
