Geriatric - Consultant

An exciting opportunity for a Consultant in Geriatric Medicine to join a forward-thinking and high-performing team in the East Midlands has arisen. We seek a clinician passionate about caring for older people to deliver and continuously improve services for frail and elderly patients across hospital and community settings.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide high-quality, patient-centred care across general geriatrics and sub-specialty services
  • Take part in acute and community-based frailty services
  • Led and supported multidisciplinary teams in delivering care to older adults
  • Participate in the General Internal Medicine and Geriatrics on-call rota
  • Supervise and support junior medical staff and interdisciplinary colleagues
  • Actively contribute to clinical governance, service planning, audits, and quality improvement
  • Deliver and support medical education for undergraduate and postgraduate learners
  • Engage in departmental and trust-level strategy, transformation, and business planning

Person Specification

Qualifications (Essential)

  • Complete GMC registration with a licence to practise
  • MRCP (UK) or equivalent

Desirable

  • MD, PhD, or additional postgraduate qualifications
  • Qualification in Medical Education

Experience & Skills

Essential

  • Demonstrated competence in managing a broad spectrum of geriatric and general internal medicine cases
  • Ability to maintain credibility with clinical teams and senior trainees
  • Evidence of effective clinical leadership, teamwork, and communication
  • Experience in quality improvement or audit within geriatrics
  • Understanding of NHS structures, governance, and clinical pathways

Desirable

  • Experience in delivering or leading service innovation
  • Publications in peer-reviewed journals
  • Experience supervising specialist trainees
  • Completion of management or leadership training

Teaching & Research

Essential

  • Experience in delivering undergraduate and postgraduate education
  • Engagement in CPD and translating evidence-based research into clinical practice

Desirable

  • Completion of a teaching qualification
  • Participation in Quality Improvement (QI) or service evaluation projects
