Haemotologist - Consultant

An exciting opportunity for a dedicated and experienced Consultant Haematologist to join a growing and dynamic haematology team in Greater London has arisen. The role offers a varied mix of outpatient care, inpatient management, diagnostic laboratory responsibilities, teaching, and MDT participation.
This post is ideal for a consultant looking to contribute to a well-established, collaborative team delivering high-quality haematology care across both malignant and non-malignant pathways.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and deliver outpatient clinics at designated locations, covering various haematological diagnoses, including malignancies, general haematology, thrombosis, and clotting disorders.
- Participate in inpatient care on a dedicated haematology ward
- Provide on-call consultant cover, including collaboration with haematology specialist trainees on selected weekdays and weekends.
- Engage in daily laboratory sessions, overseeing:
- Blood film and bone marrow aspirate reporting
- Laboratory result interpretation
- Close liaison with laboratory and transfusion staff
- Participate in regional MDTs via video conference alongside local and tertiary centres.
- Deliver clinical advice and guidance (A&G) for GPs through a structured weekly electronic system.
- Provide clinical input to the Haematology Day Unit, including chemotherapy oversight.
- Supervise, mentor, and teach specialist trainees, IMT doctors, and other multidisciplinary colleagues.
- Participate in clinical governance activities, audits, and operational meetings (mandatory attendance at four governance half-day sessions annually).
Eligibility Criteria
Essential:
- Complete GMC registration with a licence to practise
- Entry on the GMC Specialist Register for Haematology or eligibility within 6 months of CCT at the time of interview
- MRCP (UK) or equivalent
- FRCPath in Haematology or equivalent
- Proven clinical experience in managing both malignant and non-malignant haematological conditions
- Confidence in interpreting bone marrow aspirates, blood films, and laboratory results
Desirable:
- Previous experience in an NHS haematology consultant or senior registrar role
- Strong teaching, supervision, or educational contributions
- Experience in leading or participating in clinical audits, quality improvement initiatives, or service development
