Haematology Consultant

Are you a dedicated and forward-thinking Haematologist looking to shape the future of haematology services in a dynamic and collaborative setting? An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Consultant in haematology within a progressive NHS organisation in Scotland, offering flexibility, academic engagement, and leadership potential.

This post suits candidates with broad haematology expertise and the ambition to lead in transfusion services, national specialist clinics (e.g. PNH), patient safety, or medical education. You'll join a cohesive team of consultant haematologists supporting a multi-site service with inpatient care at a centralised unit.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide expert clinical care across various haematological conditions in outpatient and inpatient settings.
  • Participate in the consultant rota, delivering diagnostic, therapeutic, and advisory services across at least two acute sites.
  • Contribute to specialist clinics (e.g. PNH) and support transfusion services where appropriate.
  • Supervise and mentor junior doctors and contribute to multidisciplinary care pathways.
  • Engage in laboratory reporting and interpretation as part of integrated clinical laboratory services.
  • Participate in clinical audits, quality improvement, and service development initiatives.
  • Actively contribute to the organisation's medical education, simulation training, or human factors development.
  • Support clinical research or lead trials in haemato-oncology (where desired)

Qualifications & Experience:

Essential:

  • MBChB or equivalent medical qualification
  • Complete GMC registration with a licence to practise
  • Inclusion on GMC Specialist Register for Haematology (or within 6 months of CCT at interview)
  • MRCP and FRCPath (or equivalent qualifications)
  • Broad-based and up-to-date clinical experience in both malignant and non-malignant haematology
  • Demonstrated competence in managing a busy haematology unit
  • Ability to supervise junior staff and contribute to multidisciplinary care

Desirable:

  • Higher medical degree (MD, MSc, PhD)
  • Experience within UK training programmes
  • Completion of human factors training or QI fellowship
  • Involvement in haemato-oncology clinical trials
  • Experience in leadership, teaching, or guideline development
