General Medicine - Consultant

We are delighted to invite applications for a consultant position in general medicine in the South East. This is a fantastic opportunity to join a high-performing hospital rated 'Outstanding' by the CQC and to contribute meaningfully to caring for general and acute medical patients in a modern, purpose-built facility.

You'll be based on a ward with 20 dedicated isolation cubicles, originally built during the pandemic, and supported by a strong multidisciplinary team skilled in managing complex and acutely unwell patients – including those requiring non-invasive ventilation.

This post provides scope to develop your special interest alongside your core general medicine duties. Whether your passion lies in SDEC, remote care, ultrasound imaging, academic medicine, research, or quality improvement, your expertise will be welcomed and supported.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Consultant oversight and clinical leadership for patients on a busy general medical ward.
  • Supervise medical admissions and daily board rounds.
  • Oversight of junior doctors and allied health professionals, including training and procedural supervision.
  • Collaboration with the emergency floor and acute medical unit to promote patient flow.
  • Management of resuscitation and end-of-life care with compassion and clarity.
  • Engagement in clinical audits, pathway development, and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Active involvement in research and clinical trials.
  • Participation in the GIM on-call rota.

What We're Looking For:

Essential Qualifications & Training:

  • Full GMC registration and license to practice.
  • MBBS or equivalent.
  • Educational Supervisor qualification.

Experience:

  • Broad experience in general and acute internal medicine.
  • Strong background in multidisciplinary care.
  • Proven teaching experience (undergraduate and postgraduate).
  • Involvement in audit, service development, and clinical governance.
  • Commitment to clinical innovation and continuous professional development.

Skills:

  • Strong leadership, management, and communication skills.
  • Effective collaboration with colleagues across disciplines.
  • Proficient in IT systems (email, MS Office, etc.).
  • Familiarity with QI methodology and a drive for service excellence.
