Older Adult Consultant Psychiatrist

Are you a dedicated Consultant Psychiatrist with a passion for older adult mental health care? We are excited to offer an opportunity for an Older Adult Consultant Psychiatrist to join a dynamic and supportive mental health team in Greater London.

This is a fantastic role for an experienced psychiatrist looking to make a real impact in the lives of older adults while working within a progressive and forward-thinking service.

About the Role

As a Consultant Psychiatrist, you will play a key role in providing high-quality psychiatric care for older adults. You will work within a multidisciplinary team, supporting patients with complex mental health needs and collaborating with other healthcare professionals to deliver innovative and person-centered care.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide specialist psychiatric assessment and treatment for older adult patients.
  • Work within a multidisciplinary team, including psychologists, nurses, and occupational therapists.
  • Take part in service development and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Offer clinical leadership and supervision to junior doctors and trainees.
  • Ensure compliance with the Mental Health Act and provide Section 12-approved assessments where required.

Candidate Requirements:

Essential:

  • Full GMC registration with a licence to practice.
  • Section 12 Approval or eligibility to obtain it.
  • Approved Clinician status or eligibility for it.
  • Recent experience in Older Adult Psychiatry at ST4-6 or Consultant level.

Desirable:

  • Membership or Fellowship of the Royal College of Psychiatrists.
  • CCT in Old Age Psychiatry (or within 6 months of completion).
  • Experience in service development and introducing innovative mental health services.
  • Formal leadership and management training.
