Breast Surgeon - Locum Consultant

A trust in South East is seeking a Consultant Breast Surgeon with a specialist interest in breast screening to join its dynamic breast care team. The successful candidate will work across multiple hospital sites, delivering high-quality breast services in collaboration with radiology and oncology colleagues. This role offers the opportunity to provide care for both symptomatic and screen-detected patients while contributing to the ongoing reconfiguration of surgical services in the region.

Main Duties of the Role:

  • Provide a high-standard breast service, ensuring the effective diagnosis and treatment of breast disease.
  • Manage patients with breast disease in both symptomatic and screening pathways.
  • Support the development and delivery of subspecialty services both in hospitals and the community.
  • Work as part of a multidisciplinary team, contributing to the strategic direction of breast services.
  • Provide leadership in teaching and training for medical trainees, specialty doctors, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Operate on patients with screen-detected breast cancers and contribute to the development of best practices in breast surgery.
  • Participate in clinical governance, research, and service development initiatives.

Essential Requirements:

  • Full GMC registration with inclusion on the Specialist Register (or within six months of CCT).
  • Proven expertise in the diagnosis and management of breast disease.
  • Experience in delivering subspecialty breast services.
  • Competence in operating on patients with screen-detected breast cancers.
  • Strong leadership skills and ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Commitment to teaching, training, and clinical governance activities.
