An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Consultant in Respiratory Medicine to join a well-established Respiratory Medicine Directorate at a trust in the North Yorkshire.

We are seeking a dynamic and skilled professional with Specialist Registration in Respiratory Medicine who possesses expertise in fibre-optic bronchoscopy, lung function testing, and EBUS. The ideal candidate should have experience managing patients with complex pleural effusions, including performing talc pleurodesis and IPC insertion/removal. Additionally, experience in managing rapid access lung cancer clinics and participation in lung MDT meetings in the UK is essential.

Main Duties of the Job

  • Provide high-quality care to respiratory patients, supporting both inpatient and outpatient services.
  • Work within a 35-bedded inpatient ward, which includes an 8-bedded Respiratory Support Unit for non-invasive ventilation.
  • Collaborate with Lung Cancer Nursing Teams, TB Nursing Teams, COPD Outreach Service, COVID-19 virtual ward service, domiciliary NIV, and a Specialist Respiratory Physiology Laboratory.
  • Support the delivery of sub-specialty services in Bronchiectasis, Respiratory Sleep Apnoea, Interstitial Lung Disease, Lung Cancer, and Tuberculosis.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary team (MDT) meetings and contribute to service improvement initiatives.
  • Provide teaching and training to junior doctors and other healthcare professionals.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential:

  • Full GMC registration with a license to practice.
  • Inclusion on the GMC Specialist Register or within six months of CCT completion.

Desirable:

  • Training in appraisal techniques.

Clinical Specialty Skills

Essential:

  • Strong diagnostic and therapeutic skills, with competency in:
    • Fibre-optic bronchoscopy & lung function testing
    • Management of rapid access lung cancer clinics & MDT membership
    • Full range of bronchoscopy procedures and EBUS
    • Management of complex pleural effusions, including talc pleurodesis & IPC procedures

Desirable:

  • Experience in performing endobronchial interventions, such as argon plasma coagulation, electrocautery snaring, and stent insertion.
  • Attendance at and participation in international respiratory conferences.

Skills, Knowledge, and Aptitude

Essential:

  • Experience working in a multidisciplinary team.
  • Strong communication and leadership skills.
  • Ability to organise and prioritise complex workloads.
  • Proven experience in teaching and training junior doctors.

Desirable:

  • Management training & IT skills.
  • A formal teaching qualification.
