On the 8th March 2022, it is International Women’s Day. However, we don’t agree with the fact that there is just one day to celebrate women! So, we are taking the whole of this week as an opportunity recognise and celebrate the tremendous efforts of our female doctors in the NHS who deliver incredible and committed care.
We got in touch with some of the inspirational women doctors who we have placed in the NHS. In this series, we find out what International Women’s Day means to these talented healthcare professionals and we get their advice on how to progess in your career as a female doctor.
In part two, we interviewed Dr. Mubashir, a Medicine SHO who works in an NHS hospital in the South of England.
1. What does International Women’s Day mean to you?
I would say that this day reminds us to celebrate how women play a significant role in building society. Women’s contributions are reflected in every industry and workplace.
2. What’s your advice to women wanting to pursue their dreams to become a doctor?
I believe if you work hard and show perseverance, you can achieve anything. The key is to keep trying and never take any failure or rejection personally but instead learn from the experience.
3. What is your proudest achievement to date?
I feel very humbled to be working in the UK as a doctor. Therefore, every day I aim to learn more to benefit my patients and to excel in my profession.
4. Are there any female healthcare workers/teachers/mentors who inspire you to continue learning and providing care?
The first woman I would like to mention is my mother who made sure that I get the appropriate support throughout my education and career. Seeing my seniors and colleagues working extremely hard inspires me. It’s a great feeling seeing so many other female consultants around me working in the NHS. I appreciate how brilliant and accomplished they are and they encourage and inspire juniors to be like them.
