An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Consultant Radiologist to join a modern and dynamic radiology service in New Zealand.

This role offers a broad scope of general radiology practice, including ultrasound, CT, and MRI, within a supportive team environment. The successful candidate will contribute to both clinical service delivery and the ongoing development of imaging services, while benefiting from a strong work-life balance and opportunities in teaching and research.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Interpret a wide range of diagnostic imaging studies, including ultrasound, CT, and MRI.
  • Provide imaging services across inpatient, outpatient, and emergency settings.
  • Triage and protocol imaging requests to ensure appropriate and timely investigations.
  • Liaise closely with referring clinicians to support clinical decision-making and patient management.
  • Support and collaborate with radiology technologists and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Participate in the on-call rota (approximately 1 in 4, at-home call).
  • Contribute to light interventional procedures and mammography services (where applicable).
  • Engage in teaching and supervision of junior doctors, house officers, and radiology trainees.
  • Participate in clinical governance, audit, and continuous quality improvement initiatives.
  • Contribute to the development and expansion of imaging services within the department.
  • Engage in research opportunities, including advanced imaging initiatives where applicable.

Person Specification

Qualifications & Registration

Essential

  • Medical degree (MBBS or equivalent).
  • Vocational registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand (MCNZ) in Diagnostic and Interventional Radiology, or eligibility for registration (including overseas-trained radiologists).

Experience

Essential

  • Broad experience in general radiology, including ultrasound, CT, and MRI.
  • Experience working across acute, inpatient, and outpatient imaging services.
  • Ability to work independently and manage a varied caseload.
  • Minimum 1 year of NHS experience.

Desirable

  • Experience in interventional radiology and/or mammography.
  • Interest in research or advanced imaging techniques.
