The service is supported by an Intensive Support Team, helping individuals with complex needs to receive appropriate care within their communities and avoid unnecessary hospital admissions.

This is an excellent opportunity for a consultant seeking a part-time role within a collaborative service, with opportunities to contribute to service development, clinical leadership and the ongoing improvement of patient care.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide specialist psychiatric assessment, treatment and ongoing care for adults with learning disabilities in community settings.

  • Work collaboratively with Community Learning Disability Teams and the Intensive Support Team.

  • Support the management of patients with complex mental health needs, including contributing to care planning and hospital discharge arrangements where required.

  • Undertake clinical reviews, home visits and outpatient clinics.

  • Provide advice and support to multidisciplinary colleagues and contribute to emergency clinical work.

  • Participate in the relevant senior consultant on-call rota.

  • Contribute to clinical governance, audit, continuing professional development and service improvement.

  • Provide clinical leadership and support collaborative working across health and social care teams.

Essential Requirements

Applicants should have:

  • A recognised primary medical qualification and full GMC registration with a licence to practise.

  • MRCPsych or an equivalent recognised psychiatric qualification.

  • A CCT in Psychiatry or eligibility for inclusion on the GMC Specialist Register, in accordance with the role requirements.

  • Section 12(2) approval and Approved Clinician approval, or the ability to obtain the required approval before starting.

  • Strong clinical knowledge and experience in community psychiatry.

  • Experience working effectively within multidisciplinary teams.

  • The ability to assess complex presentations and manage psychiatric medication safely.

  • Good communication, leadership and organisational skills.

  • A current driving licence.

Experience in Learning Disability Psychiatry is particularly relevant. Candidates should demonstrate an interest and ability to apply psychiatric practice to adults with learning disabilities.

Working Pattern and Benefits

The post offers 6 programmed activities per week, comprising five direct clinical care PAs and one supporting professional activity PA. The working pattern will be agreed with the successful candidate, with the provisional timetable spread across three to four days.

The appointment offers the opportunity to work within an established multidisciplinary service, with access to professional development, clinical governance activities and opportunities to contribute to teaching and service development.
