An opportunity is available for an experienced Consultant Breast Radiologist to join an established breast imaging service in Wales.
The role primarily seeks substantive candidates with Specialist Registration, particularly experienced Breast Radiologists with NHS experience and expertise across breast screening, ultrasound, MRI, and breast intervention.
The successful candidate will join a team of Consultant Radiologists and work alongside an established breast radiology team comprising Consultant Breast Radiologists, a Consultant Radiographer and an Advanced Practitioner.
The Health Board prefers a substantive appointment, although strong locum profiles may also be considered.

Main Duties

The successful candidate will:

• Report mammography.
• Perform and report breast and axillary ultrasound.
• Perform image-guided biopsy of the breast and axilla.
• Undertake symptomatic breast assessment clinics.
• Actively participate in the Breast MDT.
• Contribute to the delivery and development of the breast imaging service.
• Work collaboratively with radiologists, radiographers, advanced practitioners, breast care nurses and other members of the multidisciplinary team.

Additional Breast Imaging Skills

The following skills would be desirable:

• Breast MRI reporting
• Vacuum-assisted biopsy/excision
• Pre-operative localisation techniques
• Contrast-enhanced mammography
• Additional breast intervention procedures

There is also potential to participate in breast screening sessions.

Breast Unit

The breast unit is equipped with:

• Two mammography rooms
• Two ultrasound rooms
• Dedicated reporting rooms
• Counselling room
• Breast prosthesis fitting room
• Support from healthcare assistants and breast care nurses

The service also benefits from a significant trainee presence, with home teleradiology available where appropriate.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

• Full GMC registration
• Licence to practise
• FRCR
• Entry on the GMC Specialist Register in Radiology, or:
• • Eligible for CCT within six months of interview and have passed the exit examination, or
  • Hold an appropriate statement of eligibility for specialist registration.

Experience

Essential

The successful candidate should demonstrate:

• Experience working with management and clinical colleagues to improve services.
• Commitment to partnership working.
• Experience of teaching and training postgraduate or undergraduate clinical staff.
• Evidence of initiating, progressing and completing clinical audit.

• Experience undertaking on-call work
