A temporary Consultant Child & Adolescent Psychiatrist opportunity is available within Child & Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) in Ireland. This post offers the opportunity to provide specialist psychiatric care to children and adolescents as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Job Purpose

The successful candidate will provide specialist psychiatric assessment, diagnosis, treatment and clinical management for children and adolescents presenting with a range of mental health and emotional difficulties.
The post holder will provide clinical leadership within a multidisciplinary team and help deliver safe, effective, high-quality mental health services for children and young people.

Main Duties

The successful candidate will:

• Undertake comprehensive psychiatric assessments of children and adolescents.
• Diagnose and manage a range of child and adolescent mental health conditions.
• Develop, review and monitor individual treatment and care plans.
• Provide specialist clinical advice to colleagues, families, carers and other professionals.
• Work collaboratively with psychologists, nurses, social workers, occupational therapists and other multidisciplinary colleagues.
• Provide medical leadership and contribute to multidisciplinary case discussions.
• Assess and manage clinical risk, including safeguarding and risks of self-harm or harm to others.
• Liaise with GPs, hospitals, schools, social care and other relevant agencies where appropriate.
• Prescribe and review medication in accordance with relevant clinical guidance and local policies.
• Support patient admission, discharge and ongoing care where required.
• Maintain accurate and timely clinical records and documentation.
• Participate in clinical governance, audit, quality improvement and service development.
• Contribute to the supervision and education of medical and multidisciplinary staff, as appropriate.
• Participate in relevant meetings and other duties associated with the consultant role.

Person Specification

Essential Requirements

Applicants must have:

• A medical degree.
• Full registration with the Medical Council of Ireland.
• Specialist registration in Psychiatry.
• Appropriate specialist training and experience in Child & Adolescent Psychiatry.
• Demonstrable experience working with children and adolescents experiencing mental health difficulties.
• Experience of multidisciplinary team working.
• Knowledge of relevant clinical, safeguarding and risk-management procedures.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work effectively with children, young people, families and professional colleagues.

Multidisciplinary Working

The Consultant will work closely with the wider CAMHS team, including:

• Psychologists
• Nurses
• Social workers
• Occupational therapists
• Medical colleagues
• Other relevant healthcare and professional services

The role requires effective communication and collaborative decision-making across the multidisciplinary team, with families, carers and external agencies where appropriate.
