An exciting opportunity has arisen for a full-time Consultant in Ear, Nose and Throat Surgery to join an established ENT team. This is a new post created to support the continued development of the service and help reduce and maintain patient waiting times.The successful candidate will join a team of ENT Consultants and will be expected to contribute to a comprehensive Ear, Nose and Throat service, with an interest in General Adult and Paediatric ENT surgery.
The department provides a broad range of ENT services, including:
- Otology
- Rhinology
- Neck Lump services
- Thyroid services
- General ENT
- Facial Skin Cancer services
Main Duties of the Job
The successful Consultant will be responsible for the care of patients referred from primary care and other clinical departments and will undertake:- Outpatient ENT clinics
- Ward rounds
- Theatre lists
- Management of adult and paediatric ENT conditions
- Emergency and non-elective patient care
- Participation in multidisciplinary team working.
- Clinical decision-making and ongoing patient management
- Appropriate administrative duties associated with patient care and departmental responsibilities
On-Call Commitment
The out-of-hours ENT on-call service currently operates on a 1:10 rota.The on-call commitment covers the wider regional ENT service. The department has also utilised weekday daytime senior on-call sessions to support ward rounds and facilitate early senior review of non-elective attendances and admissions.
Teaching & Training
The successful candidate will be expected to take an active role in the education and training of:
- Core trainees
- Specialist trainees
- Middle-grade doctors
- Junior doctors
- Medical students
Clinical Governance & Professional Development
The Consultant will participate in:
- Clinical audit
- Clinical effectiveness activities
- Risk management
- Quality improvement

- Relevant postgraduate education and training
Essential Qualifications & Registration
Applicants must have:
- Full registration with the GMC
- GMC licence to practise
- FRCS (ORL-HNS) or equivalent
- Completion of CCT / higher specialist training or equivalent in Otolaryngology
- Inclusion on the Specialist Register, or eligibility for admission to the Specialist Register within six months of interview

- Clinical experience and expertise in Otolaryngology
- Evidence of continuing personal and professional development
