An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic Consultant in Acute Medicine to join a well-established Acute Medicine team in South East England.
The successful candidate will provide consultant-led care across the Acute Medical Unit, Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC), Ambulatory Care and Short Stay services. Working within a busy multidisciplinary environment, you will manage a wide variety of acute medical presentations while contributing to the ongoing development of innovative acute care pathways and seven-day services.
This role also offers opportunities to support education, clinical governance, quality improvement and the continued development of Acute Medicine services.


Main Duties & Responsibilities

  • Deliver consultant-led care across the Acute Medical Unit, Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC), Ambulatory Care and Short Stay Unit.
  • Lead the assessment, diagnosis and management of acute medical admissions.
  • Provide clinical advice and triage for referrals from primary care.
  • Support the management of patients requiring acute inpatient care.
  • Supervise junior doctors and the wider multidisciplinary workforce.
  • Provide clinical and educational supervision for doctors in training.
  • Participate in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching programmes.
  • Contribute to clinical governance, audit, quality improvement and service development initiatives.
  • Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team to deliver safe, effective and patient-centred care.
  • Maintain Continuing Professional Development (CPD), appraisal and revalidation requirements.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • MBBS (or equivalent).
  • MRCP (or equivalent).
  • Full GMC Registration with Licence to Practise.
  • Current ALS Certificate.
  • Entry onto the GMC Specialist Register in General Internal Medicine or Acute Medicine.

Desirable

  • PhD, higher degree or postgraduate diploma.
  • CCT in Acute Medicine (or within six months of completion).
  • GMC-recognised Clinical or Educational Supervisor status.


Experience & Skills

Essential

  • Demonstrable experience appropriate for a Consultant Acute Medicine role.
  • Strong clinical knowledge across Acute and General Internal Medicine.
  • Competence in common bedside procedures.
  • Evidence of participation in appraisal and Continuing Professional Development.
  • Knowledge and application of evidence-based practice.
  • Understanding of relevant legal and professional frameworks.
  • Excellent communication, presentation and organisational skills.
  • IT competency.
  • Ability to supervise and support multidisciplinary teams.

Desirable

  • Broad experience across Acute Medicine and related specialities.
  • Experience as a Clinical or Educational Supervisor.
