Job Summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Consultant Obstetrician & Gynaecologist to join a major Women's Health service in the West Midlands.
This is part of a significant investment to expand Consultant capacity, strengthen Obstetrics and Gynaecology services, improve patient outcomes, and support long-term service transformation. Consultants with interests across a wide range of Obstetric and Gynaecology subspecialties are welcomed.
The successful candidate will provide Consultant-led care across Obstetrics and Gynaecology, contribute to specialist services, participate in the Obstetric on-call rota and play an active role in teaching, research, governance and quality improvement.


Main Duties & Responsibilities

  • Deliver Consultant-led Obstetric and Gynaecology services.
  • Participate in Consultant labour ward presence and Obstetric on-call rotas.
  • Provide inpatient, outpatient and emergency Obstetric & Gynaecology care.
  • Contribute to specialist clinics aligned with individual subspecialty interests.
  • Work collaboratively across multiple hospital sites.
  • Support multidisciplinary team working and integrated patient care.
  • Supervise and train junior medical staff.
  • Participate in audit, governance, teaching and clinical research.
  • Support service transformation and delivery of safety and performance targets.
  • Participate in annual appraisal, revalidation and continuing professional development.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • Full GMC Registration with Licence to Practise.
  • Relevant CCT (or equivalent).
  • Entry on the GMC Specialist Register (or within six months of CCT).
  • MRCOG (or equivalent specialist qualification).
  • ATSM in Advanced Labour Ward Practice (or equivalent experience).

Desirable

  • Higher postgraduate qualification.
  • Advanced laparoscopic skills.
  • Experience in outpatient hysteroscopy and colposcopy.


Experience & Skills

Essential

  • Broad experience in General Obstetrics and Gynaecology.
  • Previous NHS experience.
  • Proven leadership and teaching experience.
  • Participation in CPD and GMC revalidation.
  • Evidence of audit and clinical governance.
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure.
  • Strong multidisciplinary team-working skills.

Desirable

  • Peer-reviewed publications.
  • Experience developing specialist services.
  • Research experience.
  • Advanced outpatient procedural skills.


Teaching, Research & Leadership

The successful candidate will have opportunities to:
  • Supervise junior doctors and multidisciplinary staff.
  • Participate in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching.
  • Lead clinical governance and audit initiatives.
  • Contribute to an active clinical research programme and national clinical trials.
  • Support ongoing service redesign and quality improvement across Women's Health services.
