Job Summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Consultant Geriatrician to join an established and forward-thinking Older People's service in the West Midlands.
The successful candidate will become part of a multidisciplinary team delivering comprehensive care for older adults living with frailty across acute, community and ambulatory settings. Consultants with any subspecialty interest are welcomed, particularly those with expertise in Front Door Geriatrics, Orthogeriatrics, Peri-operative Geriatrics and Falls Services.
The department offers excellent opportunities for clinical leadership, service development, research, education and innovation in frailty care.

Main Duties & Responsibilities

• Deliver Consultant-led care for older adults across inpatient, ambulatory and frailty services.
• Provide comprehensive geriatric assessment for patients presenting with frailty.
• Participate in acute medicine and speciality on-call commitments.
• Support Front Door Frailty and Same Day Emergency Care services.
• Deliver specialist outpatient clinics and multidisciplinary team clinics.
• Supervise junior doctors and multidisciplinary staff.
• Participate in teaching, audit, governance and quality improvement.
• Contribute to research projects and service innovation.
• Support policy development and clinical leadership across Older People's services.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

• Full GMC Registration with Licence to Practise.
• MRCP (or equivalent).
• CCT (or equivalent) in Geriatric & General Internal Medicine.
• Entry on the GMC Specialist Register (or within six months of CCT).

Desirable

• Higher postgraduate qualification.

Experience & Skills

Essential

• Previous NHS experience.
• Comprehensive clinical experience in Geriatric and General Internal Medicine.
• Ability to manage acute elderly care and unselected acute medical admissions.
• Strong multidisciplinary team-working and communication skills.
• Clinical leadership experience.
• Commitment to CPD, teaching, governance and quality improvement.
• Ability to work flexibly across evolving frailty pathways.

Desirable

• Research and peer-reviewed publications.
• Formal leadership training.
• Evidence of leading multidisciplinary teams.
• Ongoing research interest in Geriatric Medicine.
