An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Consultant Obstetrician – Maternal Medicine to join a well-established Obstetrics & Gynaecology service in North West England.
The successful candidate will provide Consultant-led Obstetric care with a specialist focus on Maternal and Fetal Medicine, delivering antenatal clinics, fetal medicine services, dedicated ultrasound sessions and labour ward care. You will also play an important role in clinical governance, education and service development while working alongside an experienced multidisciplinary maternity team.

Main Duties & Responsibilities

• Deliver Consultant-led Obstetric services with a specialist interest in Maternal Medicine.
• Manage high-risk pregnancies and complex maternal medical conditions.
• Conduct antenatal clinics and dedicated fetal medicine clinics.
• Undertake dedicated fetal ultrasound and scanning sessions.
• Provide leadership in the labour ward and clinical support.
• Participate in the Consultant Obstetric on-call rota (1:11) and obstetric hot week rota (1:12).
• Support governance, teaching and departmental development.
• Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings.
• Contribute to clinical audit, quality improvement and research activities.
• Supervise and teach undergraduate and postgraduate trainees.

Person Specification

Qualifications & Registration

Essential

• Full GMC Registration with Licence to Practise.
• MBBS or equivalent medical qualification.
• Entry on the GMC Specialist Register (or within six months of CCT).
• ATSM in Advanced Labour Ward Practice.

Desirable

• Teaching qualification (e.g. PGCert).
• Medical leadership qualification.
• Maternal Medicine SITM (or equivalent).
• Fetal Care/Prenatal Diagnosis SITM (or equivalent).

Experience

Essential

• Previous NHS experience.
• Ability to manage all common obstetric and emergency presentations.
• Teaching experience at undergraduate and postgraduate level.
• Experience in high-risk obstetric care.
• Evidence of clinical leadership.
• Commitment to clinical audit and quality improvement.

Desirable

• OSCE Examiner experience.
• Obstetric ultrasound skills.
• Management or leadership training.
• Training in quality improvement methodology.
• Formal leadership qualification.
