An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Respiratory Consultant to join a progressive Respiratory Department in North West England.
The successful candidate will join a specialist cancer care team, delivering high-quality inpatient and outpatient Respiratory Medicine services with a significant focus on Lung Cancer, while also contributing to General Internal Medicine. The department offers access to specialist Respiratory services including Sleep Medicine, Pleural Disease, Respiratory Assessment, Medical High Care and advanced diagnostic facilities, providing excellent opportunities for professional development and subspecialty practice.

Main Duties & Responsibilities

• Deliver Consultant-led inpatient and outpatient Respiratory Medicine services.
• Provide specialist care for Lung Cancer patients alongside the General Respiratory Medicine service.
• Participate in General Internal Medicine and Respiratory on-call rotas.
• Contribute to multidisciplinary Lung Cancer MDT meetings.
• Undertake bronchoscopy, EBUS and specialist Respiratory clinics where appropriate.
• Support teaching, clinical audit, governance and research activities.
• Supervise and mentor junior medical staff.
• Participate in service development and quality improvement initiatives.

Person Specification

Qualifications & Registration

Essential

• Primary Medical Qualification.
• MRCP (or equivalent).
• Entry on the GMC Specialist Register, or within six months of obtaining CCT in Respiratory and General (Internal) Medicine.

Desirable

• MD, PhD or other relevant postgraduate qualification.
• Membership of relevant professional societies.

Experience

Essential

• Broad exposure to General and Respiratory Medicine.
• Ability to supervise audit projects.
• Understanding of research and clinical audit principles.
• Regular participation in audit meetings.
• Enthusiasm and commitment to Respiratory Medicine.

Desirable

• Specialist interest within Respiratory Medicine.
• Recent research activity and publications.
• Personal involvement in clinical audit.

Skills & Competencies
