An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Consultant Medical Oncologist to join a leading cancer service in South West England. We are seeking an enthusiastic and forward-thinking Consultant with an interest in Breast or Gastrointestinal (GI) Oncology, although other tumour site interests will also be considered and supported.
This is an excellent opportunity to join a highly collaborative multidisciplinary team delivering comprehensive cancer care, with access to modern oncology facilities, strong research infrastructure, and excellent opportunities for professional development. The department supports a 4-day on-site work model with the option of 1 day of remote work, promoting a healthy work-life balance.

 

The Role

As a Consultant Medical Oncologist, you will:

• Deliver high-quality outpatient and inpatient oncology care across your specialist tumour site.
• Manage site-specific cancer services, including new patient and follow-up clinics.
• Conduct regular inpatient ward rounds for your named patients.
• Participate in multidisciplinary team (MDT) meetings and peer review activities.
• Prescribe and oversee systemic anti-cancer therapies, including chemotherapy.
• Contribute to the Acute Oncology Service on a 1:15 rota, including weekend ward rounds and remote overnight on-call cover, with support from an Oncology Speciality Registrar.
• Supervise and support junior doctors, specialist nurses, and the wider multidisciplinary team.
• Participate in clinical governance, audit, quality improvement, and service development initiatives.
• Support undergraduate and postgraduate education, teaching, and clinical supervision.

 

Person Specific

Requirements

Essential

• MRCP (UK) or equivalent medical qualification.
• Full GMC registration with a licence to practise.
• Entry on the GMC Specialist Register in Medical Oncology via:
• • Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) (or within six months of obtaining CCT),
  • Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration (CESR), or
  • European Community Rights.
• Ability to independently manage oncology patients.
• Commitment to clinical audit, governance, teaching, and continuous professional development.
• Excellent communication, organisational, leadership, and multidisciplinary teamworking skills.

Desirable

• Higher degree (MD, PhD, or equivalent).
• Experience in an additional tumour site.
• Evidence of service development and quality improvement.
• Principal Investigator experience in clinical trials.
• Teaching qualifications or formal educational experience.
• Leadership and management experience.
