An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Consultant Stroke Physician to join a forward-thinking stroke service delivering comprehensive hyperacute, acute and rehabilitation stroke care. This is an excellent opportunity to join an expanding consulting team committed to innovation, research, and delivering outstanding patient outcomes.Working within a well-established multidisciplinary service, you will play a key role in developing modern stroke pathways while contributing to teaching, leadership and service improvement.
The Role
As a Consultant Stroke Physician, you will:
- Lead the assessment, diagnosis and management of patients across the stroke pathway.
- Deliver hyperacute stroke care including:
-
- Thrombolysis
- Mechanical thrombectomy
- Intracerebral haemorrhage management
- Participate in daily ward rounds and specialist stroke clinics.
- Provide consultant support for hyperacute stroke referrals and emergency decision-making using telemedicine where appropriate.
- Work closely with neurology, neuroradiology, vascular and rehabilitation teams.
- Participate in the consultant on-call rota for acute stroke and thrombolysis.
- Support clinical governance, quality improvement and service development initiatives.
- Contribute to nationally and internationally recognised clinical research and stroke trials.
- Supervise junior doctors and support multidisciplinary education.
Academic & Research Opportunities

Person Specific
Requirements
Essential
Applicants must have full GMC registration with a licence to practise.- Be on the GMC Specialist Register for Stroke Medicine, or be within six months of obtaining CCT or Specialist Registration.
- CCT/CESR in:
-
- Acute Medicine
- General Internal Medicine
- Geriatric Medicine
- Neurology
- MRCP (UK) or equivalent.
- Valid ALS certification.
- Dedicated stroke experience, including thrombolysis at registrar level.
- Experience managing acute stroke, thrombectomy and TIA patients.
- Ability to independently manage complex stroke patients.
- Experience supervising junior doctors.
- Commitment to teaching, audit and research.
- Excellent leadership, communication and multidisciplinary working skills.
Desirable
- CCT in Stroke Medicine subspecialty training.
- Postgraduate qualification (MD, PhD or equivalent).
- Experience working in large UK Acute Assessment or Admissions Units.
- Experience in Ambulatory Care.
- Practice-changing audit or peer-reviewed publications.
- Instructor experience for ALS, ALERT, IMPACT or similar clinical courses.
- Experience leading service development initiatives.
