An excellent opportunity has arisen for a Consultant Psychiatrist to join a well-established Community Mental Health Team (CMHT) providing high-quality care for adults with a wide range of mental health conditions.
This substantive Consultant role offers the chance to work within a supportive multidisciplinary team while contributing to service development, teaching, leadership and quality improvement. The service follows a modern team-based approach, allowing Consultants to focus on complex clinical decision-making and leadership rather than maintaining an individual caseload.


The Role

You will:
  • Provide specialist assessment, diagnosis and treatment for adults with complex mental health conditions.
  • Deliver clinical leadership within the Community Mental Health Team.
  • Support multidisciplinary team meetings and provide expert psychiatric advice.
  • Conduct outpatient assessments, reviews and CPA meetings.
  • Undertake home visits where clinically appropriate.
  • Work closely with GPs, community services, inpatient teams and external agencies.
  • Act as the Responsible Clinician for patients subject to Community Treatment Orders.
  • Participate in teaching, audit, research and continuous service improvement.

Person Specific

Requirements

Essential

Applicants must have:
  • Full GMC registration with a licence to practise.
  • GMC Specialist Registration in General Adult Psychiatry (or be within six months of CCT).
  • Approved Clinician status (or be able to obtain this within three months).
  • Section 12 approval (or be able to obtain this within three months).
  • Experience assessing and treating patients in a community mental health setting.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and multidisciplinary teamwork skills.
  • Experience in teaching, audit and research.

Desirable

  • CCT in General Adult Psychiatry.
  • MRCPsych (or equivalent recognised qualification).
  • Higher degree (MD, PhD, MSc or equivalent).
  • Previous leadership or management training.
